Easton, Mass. — Consumer-direct audio marketer Outlaw Audio expanded its home-speaker lineup with its first bookshelf speaker and first LCR, complementing its powered subs. The company is also developing its first surround speaker and floorstanding speaker.
Outlaw also updated two of its three powered subs and unveiled its most powerful home theater amplifier.
In speakers, the two-way Outlaw bookshelf speaker at $999/pair in black, or $1,099/pair in cherry veneer, features 5.25-inch woofer, 1-inch silk-dome tweeter, power handling of 50-200 watts, 8-ohm impedance, 87dB sensitivity, frequency response of 54Hz-22kHz and boundary-compensation switch to counter the sonic effects of placement in a bookshelf or in a corner. They’re bi-wireable and biampable.
The $700 LCR speaker, due in September, is said to be the industry’s first configurable LCR, thanks to dual “switchable” crossover networks that alter response for vertical or horizontal placement. A 2.5-way crossover can be switched in to reduce lobing when the speaker is placed vertically for center-channel use.
The new amp is the $3,500 7900, a fully differential balanced Class AB amp rated at 7×300 watts into 8 ohms and 7×450 into 4 ohms. It’s supplied with two power cords for plugging into two separate wall outlets. For best results, they should be plugged into outlets operating on separate circuits.
The two new subs are the $399 LFM-1 and $649 LFM-1 EX, both due in July. The LFM-1 features a 10-inch woofer, 225-watt BASH amplifier and dual-ported down-firing enclosure. It’s said to deliver linear performance from 25-180Hz and output up to 112dB with proper placement in typical listening rooms. It comes with 180-degree phase control.
The top-of-the-line LFM-1 EX features the largest enclosure ever offered by Outlaw to deliver bass to 16Hz. A selectable tuning option, consisting of a selectable EQ circuit and port plug, allows for a choice of maximum SPL output or lowest frequency bass extension. It features 350-watt BASH power amplifier, a 12-inch long-throw woofer and dual-port down-firing enclosure. It comes with 180-degree phase control.
Besides developing additional speakers, Outlaw is also working on preamp processors with HDMI 1.3 connections. Ship dates for the speakers and processor weren’t revealed.
