Upper Saddle River, N.J. – Onkyo plans to ship in August its first mini system with an embedded 8-pin Lightning connector to dock with the iPhone 5, fifth-generation iPod Touch, and seventh-generation iPod nano.
The CS-255 CD Hi-Fi Mini System will be available in August at a suggested $299.
The system consists of a CD-receiver with Lightning dock on top and front-panel USB for connecting and controlling iPads and earlier generations of iPhones and iPods. The Lightning dock and USB port are Apple-certified.
The USB also enables users to play back MP3/AAC files from other smartphones, tablets, and flash memory drives. A 3.5 mm stereo analog input connects audio devices that lack USB.
The system is equipped with AM/FM tuner, 60 memory presets, front-load CD drive, and two-way speakers.
Two other CD-equipped mini systems offered by Onkyo feature 30-pin Apple-certified connectors, and two others offer Apple-certified USB ports. Prices range from a suggested $249 to $499 for a networked mini system with Apple-certified USB.
