Naperville, Ill. – OfficeMax has appointed former Sears Holdings online president Jim Barr as executive VP and chief digital officer, effective Nov. 14.
In his new role, Barr will be responsible for all aspects of the office supply chain’s e-commerce business and for driving its multi-channel digital strategy.
Barr has been working with OfficeMax’s e-commerce unit in an advisory capacity since July 2011 “to assess the opportunities for the business and develop a strategy to maximize its potential,” the company said. He previously held full profit-and-loss accountability for Sears.com, where he “significantly” grew the business before leaving after two years in 2010.
Before that Barr spent 12 years at Microsoft, his last role as general manager, business-to-consumer e-commerce and marketplaces, where he had full business responsibility and led the company’s global e-commerce strategy.
“Jim is a proven digital expert who has built industry leading e-commerce businesses,” said OfficeMax president/CEO Ravi Saligram. “That expertise will be invaluable to us as we invest in our digital offerings and develop a seamless multi-channel experience for our retail consumers and our business customers.”
OfficeMax is the No. 3 office supply chain behind Staples and Office Depot.
