Office Depot Taps Toys‘R’Us’ Rice

Boca Raton, Fla. – Office Depot has appointed Toys“R”Us veteran Troy Rice as retail executive VP, effective April 14.

He succeeds Juan Guerrero, who served as North American retail senior VP for Office Depot prior to its merger with OfficeMax and was named interim retail executive VP in December.

Rice joins the company after eight years at Toys“R”Us, most recently as stores and services executive VP. Prior to that, he spent 16 years at The Home Depot, eventually heading the chain’s $24 billion Northern division as president.

In his new role, Rice will report directly to chairman/CEO Roland Smith and will serve on the company’s senior management leadership team.

“Troy is an accomplished executive who has focused his career on improving operational performance and the customer experience in multi-unit retail stores,” Smith said. “His 20-plus years of experience in retail operations and his omnichannel orientation will enable him to make immediate and significant contributions to a number of Office Depot’s 2014 critical priorities.”
