NPD To Track Digicam Accessories

Port Washington, N.Y. — Market research firm NPD Group introduced a new service today for tracking the retail sales of digital camera accessories.

The new monthly service will track point-of-sale activity for camera lenses, cases, tripods, camera batteries and flashes, among other accessories. NPD said it would release its first results at the end of this month and will also offer historical monthly results, dating back to January 2001.

“As the digital camera category matures, pricing on digital cameras will inevitably become more competitive and margins will decline while accessories will continue to deliver robust margins and highly defendable sales,” said Stephen Baker, industry analysis director, NPD Group, in a statement announcing the new service.
