Nokia Q1 Device Sales Down 30%, Losses Grow

Espoo, Finland — Nokia’s mobile-device dollar volume fell in the first quarter by 30 percent compared with the year-ago period to 1.93 billion euros ($2.66 billion) on the eve of the segment’s acquisition by Microsoft.

Sales were off sequentially by 27 percent.

The device segment’s operating losses grew to 326 million euros ($450 million) compared with a year-ago loss of 120 million euros and a fourth-quarter loss of 198 million euros.

In the fourth quarter and full-year 2013, device revenues were down 29 percent.

Operating losses in the device segment hit 198 million euros in the fourth quarter, and full-year losses were 780 million euros, down 66 percent.

Currency conversions are based on a rate of 1 euro = $1.38.
