Redmond, Wash. – Nintendo
announced it was dropping the price of the DSi and DSi XL video game systems as
of Sept. 12.
The DSi will drop
to a $149 suggested retail, from $169, and
will be $169, down from $189.
The DS Lite model
will remain at a $129 suggested retail.
The NPD Group
pegged total Nintendo DS family hardware sales through the end of July at more
than 42.3 million in the U.S., according to Nintendo.
Nintendo is expected to have a glasses-free 3D handheld video game player, the 3DS, by the end of its fiscal year.
