New Sony LCD Monitors

New York – Sony unveiled a series of new flat panel computer displays and is download capability from Internet music supplier pressplay to its MiniDisc player line at PC Expo earlier this week.

The new flat-panel come in four sizes, 15-inch, 17-inch, 18-inch and for the first time 20-inch and are part of Sony’s DeluxePro series. The latter two models will ship in August and September, respectively, with suggested retail price of $900 and $2,000. The 15-inch and 17-inch monitors began shipping this month with suggested retail prices of $550 and $1,100.

Mark Viken, Sony’s senior vice president for IT products, said the company’s display business has grown 21 percent in the past year.

The pressplay deal will allow NetMD players to transfer music from the website. The pressplay service, which is offered through Sony’s Musiclub web site as well as such other pressplay affiliates, as MP3.com, MSN, Roxio and Yahoo, will include technology provided by Roxio that will allow users to transfer songs to their recorder. Pressplay is a pay service with fees starting at $9.95 per month to download music.
