New iPhones Get Rugged Case Options

New York — A number of new rugged protective cases for the Apple iPhone 5s and 5c have reached the market this week.

Trident Case released three new models.

The company has reworked its flagship Kraken AMS protective case for the iPhone 5s to accommodate the new phone’s fingerprint scanner.

The Kraken AMS combines two cases: a soft silicone sleeve, called Perseus, and a hard, tough outer shell with a built-in screen protector, called the Kraken AMS Exoskeleton. Both are available separately in a variety of colors.

Trident said users can use the Perseus case for everyday basic protection and then attach the AMS Exoskeleton when they need maximum protection and versatility such as when active or when exposed to the elements.

All Kraken AMS-series cases include a media stand for hands-free viewing, which can be removed to make way for more than two dozen custom-fitting accessories and mounts, such as a tripod attachment, belt clip, bike rail strap, wire organizer and a variety of car mounts.

Consumers can visit a website to choose from more than 40 color combinations and add whatever accessories and mounts they need.

The Kraken AMS case is also available for the new iPhone 5c and retails for $49.95. Mounts and accessories start at $14.95.

Trident also released Cyclops and Aegis cases for the iPhone 5s today, offering consumers varying levels of protection, sizes and prices. The $39.95 Cyclops case is a two-piece polycarbonate shell that offers the same protection as Kraken AMS in a smaller form, without the custom attachment options. It includes a built-in screen protector and is available in black, blue, pink, red and green.

The $34.95 Aegis case combines a silicone case with a polycarbonate back plate and comes with a self-applicable screen protector. It is available in black, blue, pink, red and green. Additionally, all three newly released cases are backward-compatible with the iPhone 5.

The Kraken AMS and Cyclops series meet the military standards for vibration, dust, sand, rain and drops. The Aegis series meets the same military standards for drops and vibration.

Meanwhile, Calabasas, Calif.-based distributor Bike2Power has announced the availability of Bravo, a waterproof and shockproof aluminum case for iPhone 5 from Tigra Sport.

The Bravo is waterproof to 6 feet and can withstand the impact of a freefall from more than 6 feet on a concrete floor at multiple angles, the distributor said. With dimensions of 5.54 inches by 2.85 inches by 0.49 inches, it is “one of the slimmest waterproof iPhone 5 cases in the market,” according to Bike2Power.

“Our mission is to provide products to bike and sports enthusiasts that protect their smartphones during their activities,” said Ilya Gorbonos, president of Bike2Power. “Tigra Sport, a company focused on creating mobile accessories for sport enthusiasts, creates products that perfectly align with our core company mission.”

The screen protector of the Bravo adheres to the phone, minimizing air bubbles. The screen protector is pressed against an O-ring on the front cover, which seals the case against water. The Bravo is machined using aircraft-grade aluminum and hand assembled. It is secured on the phone with seven screws and features a concealed lanyard loop; each package comes with installation tools, a headphone conversion cable, lint-free cleaning cloth, and spare screws and caps.

The Bravo is available for $99.95 in silver and black anodized aluminum. Additional colors including metallic blue, green and purple will be released later this year.
