Navigon Sells $99 Lifetime Traffic For PNDs

Chicago — Navigon is continuing its aggressive push into the U.S. market by offering an optional lifetime real-time traffic package at $99 for its personal navigation devices (PNDs).

Most suppliers offer only three months to one year of free traffic and require an additional $100 to $150 for a traffic adapter.

Navigon also said it will sell an optional Zagat Survey Ratings and Review Guide at $39.99 and announced yesterday an aggressive Black Friday promotion for its leader PND.

Under Navigon’s model, the traffic or Zagat options are enabled by entering a code into the PND to unlock the feature after it is purchased at the retailer. No additional adapters are required.

The traffic and Zagat options will be compatible with the Navigon 2100 PND. Navigon’s other PNDs, the 5100 and 7100 already come with pre-activated traffic and Zagat information.

Navigon also said it will sell its model 2100 on Black Friday with a free lifetime real-time traffic subscription for $179 through Radio Shack and Staples. The product, which offers text-to-speech pronunciation of street names, typically carries a suggested retail of $249 without traffic.

Navigon PNDs are sold through retailers including Best Buy, Radio Shack, Office Depot and Staples.

Navigon is also a German-based GPS software provider to many companies including Pioneer, Sony, Dual, Delphi and Rand McNally, and it co-developed the Pocket LOOX N100 PND with Fujitsu-Siemens.
