MPEG LA Claims Haier Infringed Patents In Digital TVs

New York – Patent
holders handled by patent pool administrator MPEG LA filed a lawsuit against Haier America for allegedly infringing patents
it controls on certain technologies used in digital TVs.

The suit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern
District of New York, claims unspecified monetary damages and calls for an
injunction preventing Haier from marketing and importing the allegedly
infringing products in the U.S.

Haier
representatives had not returned calls for comment as of this posting.

MPEG LA licenses patent
pools for digital technologies, including MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Visual (Part
2), IEEE 1394,
VC-1, ATSC
and AVC/H.264
standards.
