Schaumburg, Ill. — Motorola has shifted its management ranks as part of its effort to split into two publicly traded companies, hiring Qualcomm COO Sanjay Jha as co-CEO of the company and CEO of the mobile devices (cellular handset) group. Jha reports directly to the board.

Greg Brown, formerly Motorola president/CEO, becomes co-CEO of the company and CEO of the broadband mobility solution group.

“Brown and Jha will share responsibility for Motorola as it moves towards separating into two independent, publicly traded companies,” the company said in a statement.

At Qualcomm, executive VP Len Lauer was promoted to Jha’s COO position, and QCT executive VP chief Steve Mollenkopf was promoted to president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, where Jha was president. In addition, Jim Lederer was recently promoted to business planning and finance executive VP for QCT.
