More THX Displays Set For Show

CEDIA Expo will serve as a showcase for a wide range of new THX Certified displays, including plasmas, LCDs and projectors from multiple manufacturers.

Among the manufacturers showing products with the THX stamp of approval will be Panasonic, which has expanded its line of THX-certified displays to include the Panasonic G10, G15, V10 and Z1 plasma models.

LG Electronics will show its LH90, which is dubbed “the world’s first THX Certified LED LCD,” and announced that it will extend THX certification to its PS80 and PS60 plasma HDTVs.

THX will present some of the new displays at its CEDIA Expo booth (No. 1562) and at the THX Learning Lounge in the Omni Hotel in Atlanta, Sept. 10-13.

All THX-certified displays incorporate the THX Movie Mode, which is a picture setting that lets consumers experience studio color, deep black levels and clean signal processing without any special calibration.

THX said Movie Mode is designed to recreate the cinema experience by setting the display’s gamma, luminance, color temperature and other settings to mirror those used by filmmakers in the studio. THX Movie Mode can be accessed by installers or users through the remote control.

THX display certification involves an extensive testing process for picture quality. THX performance standards incorporate black levels, resolution, contrast and color gamut.

THX engineers have also created a signal processing test for a display’s scaling, motion conversion and de-interlacing capabilities.
