Vern Smith, business development director at Monster, died Sept. 20, according to the company. He was 55.
Smith had been with the company for more than 30 years, Noel Lee, head monster, said in a statement. He is survived by his wife, Tang, and his daughter, Stephanie.
Said Lee: “Vern was everyone’s Monster. There was always a ‘Vernism’ to bring a smile to everyone’s face during the most seriousness of meetings. His heart was gold and always in the right place. From his teamwork, comradery, teaching and mentoring others, and his ‘always there’ participation in hundreds of retailer and business meetings that helped build Monster throughout the years. He was indispensable.”
Lee fondly recalled an especially memorable Smith event at CES 2015, when Smith was “made” to dance by Shaquille O’Neal at the company’s press conference.
Added Lee: “Vern was universally loved. No drama. Just pure Vern. He will be sorely missed in the Monster family. Please join me in giving heartfelt condolences to his family, and everyone he affected both within Monster and outside.”
