York – Meridian launched an
to remotely control a networked Sooloos multizone music server via Wi-Fi
from any room in the house.
The
free app finds the Wi-Fi network, locates the Sooloos
Digital Media System on the home network, and connects automatically with no
configuration necessary, the company said.
The iPad app joins an iPhone/iPod Touch app.
From the iPad, users control multiple-zone playback, volume and transport
controls as well as browse and select songs by artist, genre, release date,
import date and tags.
On the iPad, consumers also view full-screen cover art for the
song currently playing, perform quick song searches by using the iPad’s onscreen
keyboard, and create and select playlists.
The server system includes a $5,500-suggested
Meridian-Sooloos Control 10 touchscreen
music-server controller, which features 17-inch LCD display and a slot-load CD
drive to play and rip discs simultaneously into the FLAC and MP3 formats.
The
screen connects to one or more separately sold TwinStore hard-drive storage
units placed anywhere on a home’s standard TCP/IP
Ethernet network. The TwinStore sells for $3,000, including two 1TB hard
drives, one of which is used for backup.
The
Control 10 touchpanel connects to legacy audio equipment via its SPDIF or SpeakerLink audio
outputs. A five-output $4,500 Ensemble component integrates the server system with
installed multi-room-audio systems.
