Marantz Adds High-End Network Player/DAC

Mahwah, N.J. – Marantz has begun shipping its second network player/DAC, the $3,499-suggested Reference-series NA-11S1.

It joins the current $799-suggested NA7004.

The new model features multiple enhancements over the lower priced model, including Reference-series performance and build quality, balanced output, DSD (SACD-file) playback via USB-B, built-in AirPlay, 192kHz/24-bit FLAC support, ALAC support, Spotify, and SiriusXM internet music service. The high-current DAC has also been upgraded. Other new features include HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) buffered headphone amplifier and DSP modes.

The new component connects to a home network via RJ-45 LAN port. The device also features front-panel Apple-certified USB type A port and a rear-panel USB type B port, which connects directly to a PC or Mac. The rear port features a newly developed ground/signal isolator technology to reduce PC noise. Dual (optical and coaxial) digital outputs and dual digital inputs are also included.

Dual master audio clock generators with jitter reduction support multiple sampling frequencies and bit depths up to 192 kHz/24 bits. The NA-11S1 supports multiple audio files, including WAV, WMA, MP3, MPEG-4 AAC, FLAC, ALAC, and DSD.

The latest Marantz DSP processor provides precision digital filtering and a number of DSP modes that let users customize the sound. They include two modes for digital sources and the option of noise shaping and a DC filter with 1.7 Hz cutoff.

The high-current D/A converter operates in differential mode to deliver low noise and wide dynamic range. Post-D/A current-to-voltage conversion is handled by the latest Marantz HDAM devices, which use discrete components instead of op amp chips.

The analog output stage features additional HDAM devices and choice of unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) outputs. The balanced outputs feature a phase-inversion option for compatibility with any XLR-equipped pre-amp.

The chassis features thick 5mm top panel that can support the weight of an additional component. A dual-layer bottom plate and die-cast aluminum cabinet feet deliver rigidity and resistance from external vibrations.

The component can be controlled with the supplied remote as well as from the Marantz Remote App for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
