Kenilworth, N.J. – Custom PC maker Maingear has introduced a line
of “Quick Ship” configure-to-order PCs.
The Quick Ship offering will leave the company’s factory with 48
to 72 hours of being ordered, compared with the normal turnaround time of about
three weeks depending upon configuration, said Maingear CEO Wallace Santos.
The three initial Quick Ship Edition units are the X-Cube, VYBE
and F131. The units, all currently in Maingear’s product portfolio, have a
quick turnaround time due to the units being basically pre-assembled with the
power system and motherboard already installed. Maingear can then quickly
install the CPU, memory, hard drive and graphics requested by the customer and
get the computer on its way, Santos said.
In order to meet its timetable, the Quick Ship units do not offer
processor overclocking. Normal orders also undergo a 72-hour system test prior
to shipping and if the customer requested processor overclocking, that can add
time, all of which adds up to the three-week ship window.
Maingear is not charging extra for the quick shipping, and while
the program has started with just these three models, Santos did not rule out
expanding it in the future to other desktop models and notebooks.
The X-Cube, $1,099, is a small-footprint unit that can be
configured with an Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processor, handle up to 8GB of
memory and has room for two 2TB 7,200 rpm hard drives. 160GB of solid-state
memory can also be added.
The VYBE is powered by an AMD Phenom II X6 with a variety of ATI
Radeon HD graphics cards. The starting price is $798.
The F131, $1,269, is available with Intel Core i5 and i7
processors, up to 16GB of memory, and Nvidia or ATI graphics. It comes in a
small-footprint, brushed-aluminum case.
