Mace Levin Dies At 89

Erie, Pa. — Long-time CE industry executive Mace Levin passed away last week at the age of 89.

Levin, father of Adam Levin of Levin Consulting, founded Mace Electronics in 1959, headquartered in Erie, Pa., with stores in Cleveland and Akron, Ohio; Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania; and West Virginia. By the 1980s the chain had grown to 30 stories, according to his son Adam.

Levin began his CE career after he returned from World War II, where he served as a lieutenant with the 75th Infantry Div. in Europe. He worked as general manager of Warren Radio for 12 years before starting Mace Electronics.

Levin was a past chair of the United Way Campaign in Erie, Pa., a founder of the All Faith Food Bank in Sarasota, Fla., and chaired more than a dozen different non-profits in the general and Jewish communities in Erie and Sarasota.
