Mountain View, Calif. — Lytro, manufacturer of the first consumer light field camera, said Tuesday that it has expanded its U.S. retail distribution to include 44 Best Buy stores across the country, as well as at B&H Photo Video in New York City.
Lytro is also currently available through international retail partners in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and will be coming soon to the U.K. through partnerships with Consutecc Innovative Technologies in Germany and Softline U.K.
This marks Lytro’s second international retail expansion, following the camera’s debut in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Canada in October 2012.
Lytro said demand continues to grow for light field technology in the U.S. and around the world. The system enables photographers to adjust the area of focus in the frame after the image is taken.
Lytro also recently announced the Lytro Mobile app, which lets people share and experience light field pictures on the go from their camera via iOS devices.
“As we continue to expand internationally, this is an opportunity to work with partners who share our vision for light field technology and support it across new markets. We look forward to seeing the kinds of living pictures our new European customers will create,” said Jason Rosenthal, Lytro CEO.
The Lytro camera is available starting today at select Best Buy store locations and in B&H. It will be available through other U.S. retailers beginning July 22.
