Lorne Schmunk, 60

Salt Lake City – R.C.
Willey veteran Lorne Schmunk died April 12 of natural causes.

Schmunk joined the
furniture, appliance and CE chain more than 33 years ago, serving as a sales
associate, buyer, sales manager, store manager and, for the past nine years,
merchandising VP for CE and majaps.

An obituary said he
passed away peacefully in his sleep.

“[Lorne] cared about our
company, our associates, our customers and the industry,” CEO Scott Hymas said
in a statement. “He was tough but fair and liked by all.”

Hymas shared an
unattributed manufacturer’s comment that he said was representative of the
vendor community’s response:

“I am deeply
saddened with the abrupt loss of Lorne both personally and professionally … I
will miss his regular emails on the state of the business and those late-day
calls just to discuss his ideas on how to grow the business.  He was a
wonderful person with a great smile and a good sense of humor.”

Schmunk is survived by
his wife, five children and four grandchildren. Services will be held Monday,
April 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Country Crossing Stake Center, 10860 S 3200 W.,
South Jordan, Utah, and the family will be receiving guests at the
Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, on Sunday from 5:00
p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations
be made to the

LDS Missionary fund
