Linksys Offers Yahoo Cordless

Irvine, Calif. — Linksys said it will ship a Yahoo Messenger-enabled cordless phone later this month capable of connecting to several Yahoo services in addition to its instant messenger.

The CIT310 dual-mode phone’s base station can connect to a home phone jack for making landline calls and to a USB port for placing calls over Yahoo’s Messenger service. Yahoo’s service, like Skype, supports free calls between Yahoo! users and low-rate calling for inbound and outbound landline/mobile calls.

The handset is capable of storing a user’s ZIP code and can access Yahoo Local Search to find local businesses and call them with one click. The phone can also used the stored ZIP code to send weather reports to the handset.

The CIT310 uses DECT technology and is expandable up to a total of six handsets. The handsets feature a dedicated button for toggling between Yahoo and landline calls color display for showing Yahoo contacts and caller ID info for both Yahoo and landline calls. Additional features include call waiting, support for the Yahoo address book, polyphonic ring tones, 10 hours of talk time and 100 hours of standby time.

The phone will carry an estimated street price of $99.99.
