Lightning Audio Ships 10 Car Subwoofers

Tempe, Ariz. – Lightning Audio has begun shipping 10 new car subwoofers in three new series to provide enough sizes and power-handling capacities for almost any installation, the company said.

Prices on the 10- and 12-inch subwoofers range from $89 to $219 each.

The subs will surface at the International CES exhibit of parent Rockford, at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas from Jan. 8-10.

The LA-ONE series consists of the 10-inch $89 L1-S410 and $99 12-inch L1-S412. Both 4-ohm models are rated at 300/150 watts peak/RMS, feature 85dB sensitivity at 1 watt/1 meter, and come with 1.5-inch voice coil. The former’s mounting depth is 4.84 inches, and the latter’s mounting depth is 5.51 inches.

Both feature 1.5-inch voice coil venting to help eliminate thermal issues and increase power handling. Their 16-gauge compound steel basket provides rigidity, structural integrity, reduced distortion and increased accuracy. A high density poly-foam surround provides the stiffness and thickness needed for optimum performance, and an anodized aluminum voice-coil former with spun laced Nomex collar provides superior heat dissipation, the company said.

The LA-TWO series consists of four models in 10- and 12-inch versions and in dual 2-ohm and dual 4-ohm versions. All feature 2-inch voice coil, 500/250-watt peak/RMS power handling, and 84dB sensitivity. The 10-inch $129 L2-D210 is a dual 2-ohm model with 5.16-inch mounting depth. The $129 10-inch L2-D410 is its dual 4-ohm counterpart with the same mounting depth. The $139 12-inch L2-D212 is a dual 2-ohm model with 5.83-inch mounting depth, and the dual 4-ohm version of that sub is the $139 L2-D412, also with 5.83-inch mounting depth.

The LA-TWO series features 2-inch voice coil venting, 16-gauge compound steel basket, high-density poly-foam surround, and anodized aluminum voice coil former with spun laced Nomex collar.

The top series is the LA-THREE, which consists of four models in 10- and 12-inch sizes and dual 2-ohm and dual 4-ohm versions. All feature 2.5-inch voice coils.

 The $209 10-inch L3-D210 dual 2-ohm model features 800/400-watt peak/RMS power handling, 81dB sensitivity, and 5.73-inch mounting depth. The $209 10-inch L3-D410 is a dual 4-ohm model with 82dB sensitivity and 5.73-inch mounting depth. The $219 12-inch L3-D212 is a 1,000/500-watt dual 2-ohm model with 85dB sensitivity and 6.16-inch mounting depth. And the $219 12-inch L3-D412 is a 1,000/500-watt dual 4-ohm model with 85dB sensitivity and 6.16-inch mounting depth.

The LA THREE series features dual linear spiders with multipoint stitched 16-AWG tinsel leads to improve mechanical stability in high-excursion situations and reduce mass, stress, and strain over a greater area, the company said. The 2.5-inch voice coil features double stacked oversized motor structure for high power handling and added efficiency, and the die-cast aluminum basket with spider venting adds rigidity and eliminates multiple acoustic resonances, the company said.

The poly-etherester surround allows for linear travel characteristics on high-excursion drivers without reducing piston size. The subs also feature anodized aluminum voice coil former with spun laced Nomex collar.
