LG TV Passes DiiVA Compliance Test

Guangzhou, China – LG Electronics’ 42-inch 42LW6600 LCD TV was credited Monday as one of the first TVs by a major manufacturer to have been tested for compliance with the new Digital Interactive Interface for Video & Audio (DiiVA) smart TV networking standard.

The set recently  passed
compliance tests at a DiiVA Consortium’s new authorized test center, here, the
group said Monday, and will be allowed to carry the DiiVA logo, assuring
compliance with the standard.

The DiiVA Consortium, which was first developed by a group of
mostly Chinese manufacturers before expanding to include LG, Samsung Sony and
others, is promoting the use of the new standard that handles bi-directional
compressed and uncompressed video signals, (similar to HDMI), along with data
streams and networking protocols.

The DiiVA standard also incorporates multiprotocol networking,
and middleware and application layers to drive mobile, PC and CE network convergence,
enabling intuitive access to content, the consortium said.

DiiVA supports a downstream data rate (from source to display) of
13.5Gbps which is capable of Deep Color at resolutions higher than 1080p.  It also supports a 2.25Gbps bi-directional
communication data channel that can carry multiple sub-channels (audio,
control, compressed video).  The useable bi-directional
data rate is said to be 14.4Gbps (because of 8b/10b encoding).

In celebrating the LG TV’s certification, the consortium said: “This
growth and momentum is expected to accelerate with today’s announcement that a
global manufacturer of LG’s stature has committed to incorporating DiiVA as a
key ingredient for Smart TVs.”

The DiiVA Guangzhou Authorized Testing Center (ATC) was developed
to help manufacturers deliver compliant and interoperable DiiVA products, the
group said. DiiVA Adopters are encouraged to visit the ATC site at www.diivatc.com.

The DiiVA Compliance Test Specification (CTS) 1.0 details the
tests, procedures and equipment specifications established by the DiiVA
Promoters to assist adopters in verifying DiiVA product compliance.

Compliance testing is mandated under the DiiVA adopter’s agreement
to ensure interoperability among DiiVA devices. Only those products that
successfully pass the testing procedures will be allowed to carry a DiiVA logo.

“This growth and momentum is expected to accelerate with today’s
announcement that a global manufacturer of LG’s stature has committed to
incorporating DiiVA as a key ingredient for smart TVs,” said Steve Yum, DiiVA
Licensing president. “LG’s product readiness is an important milestone that
demonstrates to the consumer electronics industry that the ecosystem for DiiVA
is ready for mass manufacturing.”

The DiiVA compliance program requires that manufacturers submit
their first product in each product category to a DiiVA ATC.

Product categories include HDTVs, source devices, switches,
adapters and cables/connectors. Subsequent derivative products, such as a
manufacturer’s second TV or DVD player based on the certified model, must also
be tested by self-test or at the ATC.

All products submitted to an ATC are tested against the
specification’s requirements, and test reports are sent to the manufacturer and
DiiVA Licensing body. Products passing the tests will be allowed to carry the
DiiVA certified logo.

The DiiVA standard was first developed in 2009, and now includes the
DiiVA 1.1 specification as well as the DiiVA CTS 1.0 specification. The DiiVA
Consortium said it expects to see the first DiiVA logo-bearing products arrive
in 2011.

The DiiVA Consortium said it currently lists the following
members: Changhong, Haier, Hisense, Konka, LG, Panda, Samsung, Skyworth, Sony,
SVA, TCL and Synerchip.
