LG Shows First Built-In Fridge

Los Angeles – LG Electronics has
introduced its first built-in refrigerator.

LG said the 26.5-cubic-foot
side-by-side has the largest capacity of any refrigerator in its class and will
become the flagship of its premium Studio series of high-end refrigerators,
ranges, wall ovens, warming drawers, cooktops, hoods, microwave ovens,
dishwashers and laundry products.

“With more and more consumers
seeking sophisticated styling packages and high-performance features on their
home appliances, we are proud to introduce a refrigerator that not only
complements the professional-style kitchen in both design and function but that
also leads its category in capacity,” said LG’s home appliances president Sam
Kim.

Like all Studio series
refrigerators, the 42-inch-wide fridge, model LSSB2791ST, is Energy
Star-qualified and built around LG’s patented linear compressor, a core company
technology that saves 8 percent to 17 percent in energy usage compared with
previous models with conventional compressors.

The fridge also has a dual
evaporator that quickly reacts to changes in temperature and humidity, digital
sensors inside the fresh food section to ensure optimum temperature for food
storage, and strategically placed vents that surround the contents with cool,
fresh air.

The LSSB2791ST is also equipped with LG’s
Smart Diagnosis technology that helps customer service reps troubleshoot
mechanical issues over the phone, and the company’s SpacePlus ice system that
frees up top-shelf space by moving the ice maker into the refrigerator door.
The water dispenser itself is a category-leading 9.2 inches tall, and
adjustable shelving, sliding door baskets and multiple pull-out drawers allow
consumers to organize their foodstuffs efficiently.

Design elements include sleek doors,
hidden hinges, bright LED interior lighting and unique, horizontally brushed
stainless-steel lines to present a brighter, more attractive finish, LG said.

The unit has a two-year warranty,
which extends to 10 years for its linear compressor motor. Pricing and ship
dates were unavailable at press time.

The new fridge made its debut here
this week at the sixth annual Dwell On Design event for the designer trade and
consumers. The gathering is being held at the Los Angeles Convention
Center, where LG is the presenting sponsor.

In other LG news, the company has
begun shipping its first line of freestanding double-oven gas ranges in the
U.S. following its trade debut at International CES in January, as well as new
30-inch and 36-inch gas cooktops featuring heavy-duty steel cast-iron grates,
stainless-steel finish and five cooking elements, including a 17,000 Btu power
burner.

The double oven ranges – models
LDG3015, LDG3016 and LDG3017S – carry manufacturer’s suggested retails of
$1,679, $1,889 and $2,099, respectively, while the 30-inch cooktop model
LCG3011ST and 36-inch model LCG3611ST are priced to hit retails of $1,154 and
$1,259, respectively.
