LG Reveals Top Executive Changes

Update! Seoul, South Korea — LG Electronics Wednesday disclosed 44 executive appointments, including three new corporate presidents and the reassignment of LG Electronics USA president Wayne Park to global sales and marketing officer.

The changes include a number of new executives to lead Home Entertainment operations and the global sales and marketing office.

The changes are part of LG’s regular practice of shifting responsibilities of its executive team, and actually involved a fewer number of changes than are typically announced, according to a company spokesman.

LG said the new positions become effective Dec. 1, 2013, while promotions are scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2014.

Park will be succeeded in the post of LG Electronics USA president by William Cho, who has been with LG since 1987. He has held the positions of president of LG Electroincs Canada, president of LG Electronics Australia, and headed up sales and marketing of LG’s global residential air conditioning business.

An LG spokesman said that in the transition, Cho will also be assuming the responsibilities of Jay Vandenbree, who recently announced he will be retiring as LG Electronics USA home entertainment senior VP at the end of the year. Vandenbree has also agreed to stay on through January in an advisory capacity.

Park has headed LG Electronics USA since 2011, and will be returning to Seoul to assume the position of global sales and marketing officer. He will be handling LG’s programs for all the world markets and will continue to have regular involvement with the U.S. operations.

Previously, Park was head of marketing for LG Electronics Korea, president of LG Canada, and Zenith Electronics LLC VP, among other high-profile positions. As corporate strategy executive VP, he created the company’s global business strategy, evaluated the marketability of emerging markets and reviewed new business opportunities.

In other appointments, Dr. Jong-seok Park, the head of LG’s Mobile Communications (MC) company, will be adding the role of LG Electronics president. As CEO of the Mobile Communications company, Park, 55, led the development of the LG G2, Nexus 5 and G Flex smartphones. He has more than 30 years of experience with LG, previously heading LG’s mobile phone R&D operations before heading up the MC vompany in 2010.

Longtime LG Display executive Hyun-hoi Ha was promoted to president of LG Electronics and will take on a new role as Home Entertainment company president and CEO. Ha, 57, has been with LG for 28 years, much of that time at LG Display, where he held various positions in sales and product planning before assuming his most recent position as executive VP in LG Corporation where he was responsible for bringing together the various LG companies to create new innovations and synergies.

David Jung, LG chief financial officer and executive VP, was promoted to LG Electronics president and will continue in his role as the company’s CFO. Jung, 56, joined LG in 1983 and was appointed LG Electronics’ CFO in 2008 following leadership roles in LG Corp. and LG International.
