LG Plays To ‘Staygaters’ For 2014 Super Bowl

Englewood Cliffs, N.J. — The Super Bowl may be coming to the New York City area for the first time, but a new study commissioned for area resident LG Electronics USA found “staygating” to be the latest trend on super Sunday.

LG Electronics said its national consumer study on home entertaining, identified “staygating,” where consumers are spending more time at home doing the things they love during their favorite games, as a popular trend.

The trend emerged at an opportune time, as LG revealed an instant-rebate program is currently running across its TV lines at select retailers nationwide. Such key TV models named in the promotion include, the LN5700, LA6200, LA7400 and LA8600.

Other findings included:

• Seventy-six percent of people have hosted at least one Super Bowl party in their lifetime.

• Football is the main sport consumers love to watch on a big-screen TV (74 percent) at a sports viewing party: 63 percent professional vs. 11 percent college.

• Home televised sporting event parties are expected to increase this year for 37 percent of consumers, and 60 percent said the number of times will be the same.

• TV size and quality of food are the top two most important considerations when attending or hosting a successful sporting event viewing party (28 percent and 27 percent, respectively).

• For a typical sporting event watched on TV, most (58 percent) consumers are commenting about the game on a social-media platform, such as Facebook or Twitter. Of those, 31 percent are doing so one to three times; 14 percent are doing so four to six times.

The “LG National Staygating Survey” was conducted online by Ebiquity Aug. 13-18, 2013, among a total sample of 1,000 U.S. adults.  Overall, the results have a margin of error of ± 3.1 percentage points at the 95 percent level of confidence.
