LG Expands Touchscreen-Phone Lineup

San Diego — LG Mobile Phones will expand its selection of touchscreen-equipped multimedia cellphones with the launch tomorrow of the Glimmer on an exclusive basis through carrier Alltel Wireless of Little Rock, Ark.

The metal-body slider features 2.8-inch sliding touchscreen with haptic technology that causes a virtual button to vibrate when touched. A hard-button dialing keypad appears when the touchscreen slides up. The dual-band CDMA 1x EV-DO phone also features music player, 128MB embedded memory, memory card slot supporting microSD cards up to 4GB, Bluetooth stereo, 2-megapixel camera, video streaming, GPS navigation and over-the-air upgradable firmware that can be upgraded.

The Glimmer retails for $249 after a $100 mail-in-rebate. The price is available to new customers who sign up for a two-year service agreement and to existing eligible customers on a qualifying rate plan. It will be available at Alltel retail stores and online at shopalltel.com.

The LG Glimmer also supports Alltel’s new Axcess Voice2TXT service, which converts incoming voicemails to text messages in the customer’s inbox and also allows customers to store and forward converted voicemails as regular text messages.
