Lexar Revamps JumpDrive Line

Lexar will show an upgraded version of its 1GB and 2GB JumpDrive Mercury USB flash drives at booth South 3 31247 during the show this week.

The revamped drive features a built-in capacity meter that always shows how much space is available, and it is bundled with PowerToGo mobile computing software. The storage meter works even when the drive is not plugged into a PC.

The PowerToGo application lets the consumer place many Windows applications onto the drive so they can be used with any PC. This creates a familiar PC environment anywhere, Lexar said. PowerToGo will come bundled with the new versions of the JumpDrive, but for legacy JumpDrive owners the software can be downloaded from Lexar’s Web site for free.

“The newly upgraded speed-rated JumpDrive Mercury is exactly what our customers have been asking for — the best of everything in a USB flash drive. We took the most popular features from several of our best JumpDrives and brought them together in JumpDrive Mercury,” said Peter Carcione, Lexar’s senior product manager

The drives also come with Lexar’s Secure II security software. The software creates a secure area on the drive using both password protection and 256-bit AES. The data is then dragged to the secure area and the Secure II software automatically encrypts the files. When the user drags the files out again, they are automatically decrypted.
