Lenovo Unveils Three Tablets

New York – Lenovo
officially took the wraps off its first three tablet PCs slated for the U.S.
market.

The IdeaPad P1, IdeaPad
K1 and ThinkPad tablets are intended to cover the consumer-to-business markets
with pricing starting at $499.

The first to hit the
market is the IdeaPad K1. It is available starting July 20 for $499 at select
retailers, with general availability in August.

With its Android 3.1
operating system, the K1 is geared toward the consumer market. It features a
1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 10.1-inch display,
Nvidia GeForce graphics, 1GB of 600MHz DDR2 memory, two speakers, Bluetooth,
Wi-Fi, MicroSD slot, two cameras (2-megapixel front, 5-megapixel rear) and has
about 10 hours of battery life. There is also a micro HDMI-out port.

It can be equipped with
either a 16GB or 32GB hard drive or a 64GB solid-state drive.

The K1 is also certified
for Netflix and runs Adobe 10.3 Flash.

The IdeaPad P1 is a
somewhat different animal, and Lenovo is positioning it as a home/business
device.

The P1 runs on either
Windows 7 Professional or 7 Home Premium. Because it is Windows based, the P1
is powered by an Intel 1.5GHz processor with integrated Intel GMA600 HD
graphics. It has the same 10.1-inch display as the K1.

It features 2GB of DDR2
800MHz memory and a 32GB hard drive or 64GB solid-state drive. The 5-megapixel
camera is dropped, and it only contains a single speaker. Unlike the K1, the P1
incorporates a single USB 2.0 port and has the ability to be docked. There is
an optional digitizer stylus.

At 1.75 pounds, the P1 is
slightly heavier, and it has six hours of battery life.

Pricing has not been
released; the units will ship during the fourth quarter.

The business-only
ThinkPad focuses on security and productivity, while delivering some of the
entertainment value found in the other models.

The ThinkPad is Android-based and has a 10.1-inch display that
uses Corning Gorilla Glass. It has a standard USB port and a SD card reader, along
with 1GB of DDR2 600MHz memory, and 16GB and 32GB hard drive options or the
64GB solid-state drive.

The ThinkPad is loaded with Lenovo’s standard enterprise-level
security and business software. It also comes with 2GB of cloud storage.

Pricing starts at $479 for the 16GB without the pen, $509 with
the pen included. The 32GB model with pen is $589; pricing for the SSD version
was not given. There is also an optional $99 carrying case with keyboard.

It will ship during August, the company said.
