Kodak Announces 12x Zoom Camera

Rochester, N.Y. —Kodak announced a new model in its advanced P-series of EasyShare digital cameras today, its second model to sport a 12x optical zoom lens.

The 7-megapixel P712, a successor to the P612, features a 12x optical zoom lens (36mm-432mm, 35mm equivalent) with optical image stabilization and a click-to-capture time of 0.07 seconds. It is positioned for second- and third-time camera buyers, Kodak said.

The P712 offers a 2.5-inch LCD, electronic viewfinder, VGA/30 fps video capture with in-camera video editing, along with the ability to isolate single or multiple frame still images from movies. Additional features include in-camera panorama stitching (up to three photos), live histogram, 25 selectable autofocus points, RAW file shooting and custom white balance settings.

Like all new Kodak cameras, the model works with the Series 3 printer and camera docks. It also accepts Kodak’s P20 zoom flash ($149 suggested).

The P712 will ship next month for a suggested $499.
