JVC Adds Flagship Video Camera

Wayne, N.J. — JVC Americas said on Monday it is now shipping a flagship camcorder optimized to capture high-quality fast-moving FullHD video.

The JVC Procison GC-PX100 ($1,000 suggested retail) offers high-bit-rate progressive recording, plus high-speed recording for super-slow-motion video.

JVC’s new video camera also adds Wi-Fi connectivity and specialized apps.

Resolution is listed at FullHD 1,920 by 1080/60p video at 36Mbps, a bit rate that allows FullHD slow-motion playback, which is useful for motion analysis or special effects.

Low-light and telephoto performance is enhanced using a fast f1.2 lens with 10x optical zoom, 1/2.3-inch 12.8-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor and optical image stabilization.

Multi-format recording offers the flexibility to choose the HD format that best suits the situation.

The GC-PX100 also offers five shooting speeds, ranging from 120 fps to 600 fps. It will record still images in burst shots of up to 9 fps at the touch of a button, similar to what can be done using the motor drive on a DSLR camera.

Other shooting modes include high-speed digital still recording at up to 60 fps and variable speed time-lapse recording. A Zoom Position Memory feature is said to be useful in analyzing sports plays, allowing quick switching among three angles of view — Full Wide, Full Tele, and a user-settable position in between.

The Wi-Fi connectivity feature enables wirelessly sending video and still images to a smartphone or tablet.

A free JVC Cam Coach app for iOS and Android is available to help coaches make annotations on the playback image. Flaws in an athlete’s form can be noted by drawing on the screen.

A Twin View function enables simultaneous side-by-side playback of two different video clips after they’re transferred to a tablet for comparative viewing. A Tagging function allows scenes to be tagged for easy access at any time, and the Scoring function allows the user to record a running tally of a game score as it progresses by tapping on a smartphone.

The GC-PX100 features a SLR-type body design with key controls and functions intuitively positioned.

A three-inch tilting LCD monitor is added to allow high- and low-angle recording, and an LCD monitor hood is included. JVC will make an optional color viewfinder available.
