Ira Bakst, STORIS Founder, Dies At 60

Ira Bakst, retired executive VP and co-founder of STORIS Management Systems, passed away April 28th. He was 60 years old.

The cause was leiomyosarcoma, a gastrointestinal cancer.

A 30-plus-year veteran of the software industry, Bakst started STORIS Management Systems in 1989 with former co-worker Don Surdoval. Bakst headed up STORIS’ sales and marketing efforts from the company’s inception and played a leading role in the product’s vision and development. He retired from STORIS last August.

Previously he founded EDP of America, a New Jersey-based software development firm. He sold EDP in 1986.

In May 2002, Bakst was honored as one of the finalists in the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Program.

His wife Joan and three sons, Eric, Jimmy and Brendan, survive him.
