Taipei, Taiwan — Intel officially introduced its newest chipset and announced a power efficiency breakthrough for its Centrino platform at the Computex show held here this week.
Anand Chandrasekher, Intel’s sales and marketing group senior VP/GM, unveiled during his keynote the 965 Express Chipset, formerly code-named Broadwater, which will form the basis for systems supporting Intel’s Viiv Technology. He said that when the new chipset is combined with Intel’s upcoming Core 2 Duo processor it will provide the PC industry with a major breakthrough in power and quieter systems. Three versions of the micro-architecture will ship for processors used in servers, desktops and laptops in June, July and August, respectively.
The chipset family incorporates Intel’s Fast Memory Access, supports DDR2 memory with 800MHz data transfer speeds, Intel’s High Definition Audio and the company’s Quiet System Technology.
Intel gave Computex attendees an early look at a new ultra-low voltage mobile processor that uses an average of 0.75 watts of power. The processor will be available this summer, Chandrasekher said.
