Insteon Adds Nest Thermostat Operability

Irvine, Calif. — Home-automation resource Insteon said Wednesday that its Insteon Hub can now connect to the Nest Learning Thermostat, enabling use with lighting, security and energy-saving devices.

Nest owners who purchase and install the Insteon Hub and download the free Insteon iOS or Android app will be able to add the Nest product to a list of remote-controlled devices in the Insteon app.

Through Insteon, Nest users will be able to add additional home-control devices, including LED light bulbs to create lighting scenes or to increase energy savings; wireless IP cameras and motion sensors for security monitoring; and leak sensors for alerting users of water leaks before they can cause significant damage, among others.

Insteon is a remote-control networking technology offering wireless control of any plug-in light or appliance via in-wall switches that don’t require an installation by a contractor.

By making every networked device talk to each other via radio frequencies and existing electrical wiring, Insteon eliminates the need for custom wiring and ensures that every device is always connected, the company said.
