HP, MTV Unveil Winning Notebook Design

Palo Alto, Calif. — Hewlett-Packard and MTV networks announced the winner of their “Take Action. Make Art” notebook-design competition.

Twenty-year-old Joao Oliveira of Porto, Portugal’s “Asian Odyssey” design was chosen from more than 8,500 notebook designs submitted by young people from 112 countries.

Oliveira’s design will appear on a limited-edition, 14-inch diagonal HP Pavilion entertainment notebook, which is expected to be available in spring 2008. Notebook skins featuring the designs of the regional finalists — one each from Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America — are also expected to be available at that time.

The competition kicked off Sept. 5 at HP’s “Your Life is the Show” event in New York. According to a release, regional finalists were selected by popular vote on the contest Web site, and the final judging was done by panel that included Olympic gold-medalist snowboarder and HP “Achiever” Shaun White, HP industrial designers, members of the MTV Networks creative team, and marketing experts from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.
