HP Goes Wide At Macworld

San Francisco — Hewlett-Packard said it would ship a high-end photo printer to dealers this April.

The Photosmart Pro B8850, announced at Macworld Expo, is capable of producing prints up to 13 inches by 19 inches in size. It is targeted at professional photographers and advanced amateurs.

The Pro B8850 can crank out a 4-inch by 6-inch photo print in ten seconds, the company said.

The new printer uses the firm’s Vivera ink set and includes cartridges for photo black, matte black and light gray. It is also integrated with Adobe’s Photoshop CS3, which allows users to harmonize color management settings between the program and the printer. An Electrostatic Drop Detection printhead management system monitors and cleans only individual nozzles in need of service, HP said.
