High-Efficiency (HE) Washers: LG Electronics LG WM8000HVA

Despite newfound competition from a host of next-generation topload washers, LG Electronics’ frontload WM8000HVA Mega-Capacity TurboWash Washer took top honors within the high-efficiency (HE) washer category in TWICE’s inaugural VIP Awards.

Features include a range of innovations and technologies designed to save consumers time, energy and money, beginning with its size. Topping out at a record-breaking 5.1 cubic feet, the WM8000HVA can accommodate a full set of king-size sheets and pillowcases with comforter in a single load. The extra-large-capacity drum allows for larger, and fewer, laundry loads, while LG’s exclusive TurboWash cycle, which combines the spin and rinse cycles together, reduces wash time by 20 minutes, even on larger loads.

Based on Department of Energy (DOE) usage data, the TurboWash feature can save the average family 2.5 hours of laundry time a week, LG said.

For the past two years the WM8000HVA has also earned the EPA’s “Most Efficient” Energy Star designation. According to LG, washers with this designation can save consumers the equivalent of at least 74,000 bottles of water a year.

The unit also offers steam technology, a “never-rust” stainless steel drum, and a 1,300 RPM direct-drive motor.

“We’re excited by the [VIP Award] for LG’s Mega-Capacity TurboWash washer,” said Dave VanderWaal, LG’s home appliance brand marketing director. “The washer’s ‘best-in-class’ capacity combined with LG’s TurboWash technology, allowing users to save 20 minutes per load, makes for a very powerful washer.”
