HD Radio Station Begins ‘Quad-Casting’

Washington
– An FM station here has become the first HD radio station in the nation to “quad-cast”
four programs simultaneously, all sports-related, said HD Radio developer
iBiquity Digital.

 The station, CBS
Radio’s WJFK-FM The Fan, is simulcasting programs from three other sports
stations in the CBS network: New York City’s WFAN AM station, Philadelphia’s WIP
AM station and Baltimore’s WJZ-FM. WJFK-FM’s main digital channel, 106.7, airs local
D.C. sports coverage, while Baltimore’s WJZ-FM plays at 106.7-HD2, New York’s WFAN
plays at 106.7-HD3, and Philadelphia’s WIP plays on 106.7-HD4.

Listeners are getting access to Washington
New York, Philadelphia
and Baltimore
play-by-play coverage as well as sports-talk coverage of baseball, football,
basketball, hockey and other sports programming, said iBiquity. The combined
stations are called The FAN Sports Network.

Any of the more than 100

HD Radio receivers

available at retail
are capable of tuning into the quad-casts, iBiquity said.
