HAI Debuts Hi-Fi Multi-Room Audio System

Home Automation Inc. (HAI) is introducing Hi-Fi, which is positioned as an affordable multi-room-audio system whose architecture delivers “three times more power than amplified-keypad systems at similar cost,” said marketing director Allison Read.

The four-source, four-zone system is expandable to eight sources and six zones. The opening price is a suggested $999.

The system's main unit incorporates four 30-watt stereo amplifiers and slots for four more stereo amplifiers. The main unit is mounted on a closet wall or in a structured-wiring enclosure. It connects via CAT-5 cable to in-wall remote input modules (RIMs) that can be consolidated in a main A/V room or scattered throughout the house near a consumer's favorite sources. Each RIM digitizes the connected source's audio signal and delivers it to the main unit, which in turn outputs the signal over standard speaker-level cable to in-wall and in-ceiling speakers throughout the house.

To control the sources from different rooms, installers connect single-gang in-wall volume/source controllers (VSCs) to the main unit. The in-wall input modules feature a stereo input jack and a routed IR emitter jack (flasher included) to control sources.

The VSCs feature a rotary knob and small LED display. Consumers press the VSC's knob to select and turn on a source. Volume is adjusted by turning the knob, which when pressed and held will adjust bass and treble and also turn the entire system on and off. Consumers use an optional programmable handheld IR remote to change music selections or pause the music. HAI includes a basic remote to select sources and change volume.

The Hi-Fi system also connects with HAI's Omni and Lumina home-automation controllers, which will control each zone's source and volume. HAI's OmniTouch touchscreen, consoles and keypads will also control the system.

HAI offers lighting, thermostat and security subsystems that can be controlled from these controllers, which also integrate with other brands of subsystems.
