Geneva Enters CD-ROM Storage With 7-SKU 'Yellow Jacket' Line

Geneva, the Minneapolis-based accessories supplier, is moving into CD-ROM storage with a new line that revolves around a patented sleeve technology it has dubbed "Yellow Jacket."

The seven-SKU line includes three CD-ROM home or office organizers, two separate packs of refill sleeves, a portable wallet, and an index system for filing the discs. Suggested retail prices range from $5.99 to $29.99. All are available now.

The Yellow Jacket is a plastic sleeve that can hold two discs and their cover booklets, eliminating the need for storing CD-ROMs in their plastic jewel boxes. Geneva claims the new storage system gives computer and CD-ROM users a storage system to organize and protect their discs that uses only one-quarter of the space of a traditional storage rack.

The organizers will be available in plastic and black birch with the top-of-the-line piece storing up to 150 discs in less than 1 square foot. The wallet has an initial 24-disc capacity expanding up to 36 discs.

Refill Yellow Jackets will be available in 12- or 24-packs and can be purchased as CD-ROM collections and libraries grow. The index system can be used to make discs easy to find by using tabs to file the CD-ROMS alphabetically or by any category.

Mark Schuster, Geneva's national sales manager, said the interconnectability of the entire Yellow Jacket system is the reason it is so appealing.

Once a disc has been placed in a Yellow Jacket, each sleeve can be pulled from an organizer, placed directly into a portable wallet for travel and then put back into the home organizer without ever having to take the disc out of its protective sleeve.

Schuster added that several key outlets, including Egghead Software, have launched the new Geneva system. "We now have a storage solution for CD-ROMs that makes sense," he concluded.
