Gateway’s Spring Line Sports Media Center PCs

Irvine, Calif. — Gateway launched its spring notebook and desktop computer lines, which includes two Media Center PCs.

Gateway’s notebook line grew with the addition of the 6010GZ, 3522GZ and 7426GX, along with new units in the company’s 4000 entry-level series.

The 6010GZ carries a $999 street price and is centered on a 15.4-inch display while being powered by an Intel Celeron 360 processor. The unit has integrated 802.11g wireless networking with BroadRange Technology that gives about 50 percent more connectivity range. General features include 512MB of DDR memory, a DVD/CD-RW drive, a 60GB hard drive and a four-in-one media reader. A $250 upgrade on this unit will add a dual-format DVD burner and a stronger Centrino M mobile processor.

The $1,199 3552GZ is Gateway’s thin and light device. Weighing in at just over 5 pounds, the unit is 1.1 inches thick and has a 14-inch display, wireless 802.11g, an Intel Pentium M processor, dual-format DVD burner, 512MB of DDR memory and a 60GB hard drive.

At the high-end of the new introductions is the 7426GX, which brings 64-bit computing power into Gateway’s notebook line with its AMD Athlon 64 3700+ processor. This graphics and gaming-centric model has a 15.4-inch display; an ATI 64MB Mobility Radeon 9550 graphics card; a dual-format, double-layer DVD drive; 100GB hard drive; and 1GB of DDR memory. The unit carries a $1,549 street price.

In the 4000 Series Gateway added an ultra-light model weighing 5.5 pounds with a 15-inch display and featuring a choice of Intel Pentium M processor. Final street price depends upon configuration, but the series’ starting price is $899.

On the desktop side the company introduced the 830GM and 832GM Media Center PCs along with the midpriced 507GR desktop.

The 830GM, $879, has a 64-bit Intel Pentium 6 630 processor with HyperThreading Technology, running at 3GHz. Other features include a 200GB hard drive; a double-layer, dual-format DVD burner; and a separate DVD-ROM and 512MB of DDR memory. The 832GM, $999, adds a BTX cool and quiet chassis and a 250GB hard drive.

The final model is the 507GR, shipping with a $699 street price. It uses a Pentium 4 530 processor and has 512MB of memory; 200GB hard drive; double-layer, dual-format DVD drive; DVD-ROM drive; and an eight-in-one media reader.
