GalleryPlayer Appoints Execs

Seattle — GalleryPlayer, a developer of HD still image content for HDTV displays, made several key executive appointments, including the addition of Kevin Akeroyd as its new CEO and long-time industry veteran Marty Levine as business development and sales VP; Paul Brownlow was promoted to founder and chief technology officer.

The appointment of Akeroyd was hailed as an instrumental move “in driving the company’s efforts to further expand HD content’s newest and fastest-growing category, HD lifestyle imagery.”

Akeroyd, who took over the post several months ago, is looking to build GalleryPlayer through new content acquisitions and partnerships as well as the development of innovative technologies, and it plans to aggressively marketing its HD art and photography collections to additional cable and satellite operators, the hospitality industry, broadband and beyond.

Akeroyd was formerly CEO of The Loan Page, a competitor of Lending Tree, and prior to that was senior VP and GM for Digital Impact, which grew to become a Top 20 Interactive Agency under his leadership.

Brownlow, who founded GalleryPlayer, was previously the company’s technology VP. He has more than 25 years experience in technology development and startup experience.

Levine comes to GalleryPlayer from EnGauge Technologies, a technology and business development consulting firm he co-founded. He also served as business development VP at iVAST, an MPEG-4 encoding, streaming server and authoring tools developer, where he executed strategic alliances and licensing agreements with leading consumer electronics, motion picture studios, and cable TV and interactive TV platform developers. He also has a long history as a former journalist covering the consumer electronics industry.

“In order to execute upon our strategy of building one of the most successful new categories in HD content, a solid management team was essential,” said Shawn Carolan, managing director at Menlo Ventures, the company’s lead investor. “With Kevin’s proven track record, Paul’s relentless commitment to developing the best in new technologies, and Marty’s years of experience in business development, we are perfectly positioned to secure GalleryPlayer’s footprint in the industry.”

GalleryPlayer is a developer and supplier of HD Lifestyle Imagery for HDTVs. Supplied content includes a wide variety of rights-protected, high-definition imagery to help turn HDTV screens into still image and fine-art showcases when not in use for video viewing.

GalleryPlayer’s proprietary, patented technology is designed for the efficient production, presentation, rights management, promotion and cross-platform distribution (via cable, the Internet and widescreen DVDs) of HD rights-protected imagery.

The company currently has license agreements with more than 45 content partners, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Geographic, Time Life and The New York Times, as well as distribution and delivery agreements with Panasonic, Comcast, Google and others.
