Galaxy S4 Mini Due In November

Dallas – Samsung’s Galaxy S4 mini, unveiled in May in Korea, will come to the U.S. in November.

The smaller, scaled-down version of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4 will feature many of the same features as the S4, the company said.

The Android 4.2.2 S4 mini will be available in in November on the AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and U.S. Cellular networks. The carriers will announce their own pricing and specific availability dates, Samsung said. It will be available in black and white.

 Compared to the larger S4, the 4.9 by 2.4 by 0.35 inch mini features 4.3-inch qHD display instead of 5-inch full-HD display, 3.77-ounce weight instead of 4.6-ounce weight, 1.7GHz dual-core processor instead of 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM versus 2GB, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n without Wi-Fi ac, 8- and 1.9-megapixel cameras instead of 13- and 2-megapixel cameras, and 1900mAh battery instead of 2600mAh.

Key features carried over from the flagship include S Translator, which provides instant text or voice language translation of email, text messages or ChatON video chats. Users can also add animations, voice and video recordings to ChatON messages.

The S4 mini lacks some key S4 features such as Smart Pause, which pauses video playback when your eyes move away from the screen, and Smart Scroll, which enable users to control scrolling via wrist movements.

The mini also carries over S Voice, which enables voice control of phone functions, such as adding appointments to the calendar, and Internet searches. Users can also ask the phone to navigate to an address or location.

S Beam lets users transfer large files, such as videos and documents, to other Galaxy phones by touching the back of the Galaxy S 4 mini to any S Beam-enabled phone without the need for a Wi-Fi network or cellular-data transmission. Group Play lets multiple users simultaneously play back songs or view photos and documents.

WatchON lets users control a TV by using the mini as a remote control and lets users browse local-TV content by genre and title.

An optional S-View flip cover features a window to view a text message or missed call notification, answer or reject a call, and view the battery status.
