Fuji Targets Youth With Z Series

Valhalla, N.Y. — Fujifilm will ship a new youth-oriented digital camera in its Z series to dealers in September.

The 10-megapixel Z200fd features a 5x optical zoom lens, 2.7-inch LCD, face detection, VGA/30 fps movie recording and ISO 1600. The camera incorporates several new features, including a couple timer mode that uses face detection to take a photo when two faces get close to one another. Consumers can choose from one of three preset distances. A new group timer mode will automatically record an image when up to four faces are detected.

Also new is built-in folder management. The camera offers five preset folders — travel, family, favorites, my pictures and events — for organizing images in-camera.

The camera features CCD-shifting image stabilization, a dual-shot mode that records one image with the flash on, the other with it off, and a blog mode that resizes images for Web posting. The Z200fd also offers Fujifilm’s i-Flash, 16 scene modes, Ir Simple wireless technology and accepts both xD and SDHC memory cards.

It will retail for $299 and be sold in pink, black, red and silver.

Earlier this month, Fujifilm launched a social-networking site dedicated to its Z series camera users.
