Offering four times greater resolution than conventional FullHD TVs, Samsung’s 55-inch HU8550 Ultra HD TV took top VIP honors this year in the 42- to 55-inch flat-panel TV segment.
Samsung’s HU8550-series Ultra HD TV ($2,999 suggested retail) features a flat screen – unlike some of the company’s curved-screen counterparts – that yields lifelike color imagery and deep black-level performance driven by the new Ultra HD dimming technology. Samsung said Precision Black Ultra HD dimming circuitry adjusts brightness to deliver deeper blacks and brighter whites, producing a crystal-clear picture experience.
The set supports 3D content playback using 3D active glasses that were designed for greater comfort.
The set is also equipped with Samsung’s advanced interactive smart-TV platform powered by quad-core processing that allows viewers to navigate at a faster pace. A Multi-Link feature allows users to multitask and dive deeper into their content on a quad screen.
Samsung also offers its unique One Connect Box port on the back of the TV, enabling users to update the software and circuitry to support future Ultra HD standards through the purchase of an optional UHD Evolution Kit.
The company said one key driver that makes this Ultra HD TV so popular is that it is among the broadest lineups, with six screen sizes that includes 50-, 60-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch models.
