Washington — Sirius XM was given an extension until June 29 on allotting four percent of its audio channels to other “entities” by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
When Sirius and XM merged in July 2008, the FCC said Sirius XM must devote some of its channels to educational radio and other “qualified entities.”
On Feb. 27, the FCC issued a notice seeking comment on this leasing requirement and said it will issue firm guidelines on how Sirius XM should lease its audio channels in the near future.
