Faroudja Intros Digital Video Processor

Faroudja will address the needs of the growing flat-panel TV industry by showcasing at CEDIA a new digital video processor designed to convert standard analog signals to high-resolution digital video for use on CRT and fixed-pixel display devices, including plasma TVs and micro-display-based digital video projectors.

The NRS-DVI, which is shipping now at a $3,995 suggested retail, outputs digital information as a pure digital DVI signal at the display’s native resolution. The result is said to be “an extremely clear image with sharper depth and detail, free of motion and video-processing artifacts.”

The processor uses patented technologies for 3:2 pull-down with bad edit detection, DCDi, cross-color suppression and TrueLife non-linear enhancement.

The NRS-DVI is a single-scan rate device, set to the optimal resolution for each display at the time the processor is ordered. Other key features include HDTV transcoding from YPrPb to RGBHV, auto-detection of HDTV or 480p on the component inputs, aspect ratio control and image shift adjustments, an internal test pattern generator, HDTV/computer pass-through, compact single-rack space size, and infrared and RS232 control.
