Long Beach, Calif. — Epson America Inc. has replaced Stylus R300M inkjet printer with the new Stylus R320.

The unit connects to a PC via USB 2.0 and also features several PC-free printing options. The printer has a front USB host port for connecting PictBridge-enabled cameras and flash memory card slots for CompactFlash Type I and II; SD/MMC; Microdrive; xD-Picture Card; Memory Stick (including PRO, Duo and PRO Duo); and SmartMedia. Users can also connect external CD-R drives to the printer via the USB host port.

Like its predecessor, the R320 can print directly to inkjet-printable CD and DVD media through an included front loading tray. The printer ships with software that lets users design customized artwork, text and background images for printing on blank disks.

The six-color R320 uses individual ink tanks to produce 5,760 by 1,440 dpi photo prints, bordered or borderless, in 4-inch by 6-inch, 5-inch by 7-inch, 8-inch by 10-inch, letter, and panoramic sizes. It can produce a 4-inch by 6-inch photo in approximately 39 seconds and a black text documents at up to 15 pages per minute.

From the control panel a user can chose the paper type from nine choices and seven photo layouts in addition to the desired number of copies. Consumers can save custom print settings that are also accessible through a “one touch” button on the control panel.

The R320 works with an optional Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter ($69, available now) for printing from Bluetooth-enabled devices such as camera phones and PDAs.

The Stylus R320 is shipping now for a suggested retail price of $199.
