Eager iPad Mini Accessories Makers Debut Cases

NEW YORK — Apple press conference debuting the new iPad Mini hadn’t concluded when the first announcements of accessories for the new device hit TWICE’s inbox.

X-Doria, based in Santa Monica, Calif., unveiled a line of iPad Mini cases that are scaled-down versions of the company’s regular iPad cases.

The SmartStyle features a puff-printed, foldable stand/ cover that wraps the Mini from front to back. A subtle, 3D pattern adds tactile grip and magnets in the cover trigger the sleep and wake function of the Mini the front cove is opened or closed. It retails for $39.99.

The SmartJacket is a thinner, slim-fitting model with 3Dpatterned back cover for $34.99.

The Dash Folio has a textured, leather-like cover with a full-frame enclosure. It converts into a multi-position stand and has magnets to trigger the Mini’s sleep and wake feature. It retails for $39.99.

The SleeveStand has a zippered enclosure and soft padded interior, converts into a display stand, includes a wrist strap that can be hidden when not in use, and a built-in storage pouch for cords and accessories. It is $29.99.

Finally, the Engage is a translucent back cover accessory for an iPad Mini with an Apple Smart Cover. It retails for $19.99.

iLuv Creative Technology announced it would have several cases and accessories ready for use with the tablet.

The company said it will have versions of its Pulse, Belgique ($29.99), CEO Folio ($64.99), Epicarp ($39.99) and Snoopy Folio ($54.99) ready for the scaled-down iPad, as well as its film kits and styli. Pricing for the Pulse was not determined at press time.

iLuv also introduced the Aurora glowin- the-dark case (iCA6T311) for the iPod Touch. According to the company, the laser-etched case will illuminate at night or in black light. A version for the iPod Nano (iCA6T314) will also be available.

The CE accessory maker also took the wraps off a line of cables and adapters for use with the Lightning connector; prices range from $19.99 to $64.99.

Products include the iCB221 Premium charge/sync cable, iAD1330 DualPin Combo car charger, iAD1370 RockWall Combo dual-USB wall charger, iAD1230 MobiSeal Combo car charger, iAD1290 MobiSeal Deluxe Combo USB charging kit and iAD1270 USB wall charger. All are designed to be used with the eight-pin Lightning connector.

Availability for these is scheduled for January 2013.

Otterbox said it will have its Defender series of cases available for the iPad Mini. The cases were scheduled to begin shipping Nov. 6.

XtremeMac announced several new cases are currently shipping, including its Micro Folio Pocket case, which features a multi-angle stand, a storage pocket and a choice of four colors. Suggested retail is $42.95.

The Micro Folio version has a bi-folding front cover that automatically wakes or puts the iPad Mini to sleep when opening and closing, and the Micro Folio Digi Camo case is constructed of heavyweight canvas with a flexible bifold cover. Both are also $42.95.

Other products launched by the company include its Thin Folio case, offered in carbon fiber or leather ($37.95); Vintage sleeve with snap closure and interior pull-tab ($32.95); and Tuffshield screen protector with static-cling adhesion ($17.95), which XtremeMac said has been adapted to fit the iPad Mini.
