DVD+R /+RW Drives Unveiled At CeBit

Hanover – Hewlett-Packard, Philips, Sony and Ricoh introduced DVD+R/+RW products this week at the CeBit technology show being held here.

Sony was the only company offering price and shipping with its DRU-120A internal and DRX-120L external models shipping respectively in May and June with suggested retail prices of $499 and $599. The DRX-120L will connect to a PC using iLink and be able to burn CD-R/RW media.

HP unveiled its DVD Writer dvd200e, an internal drive, while Philips offering is the DVD+RW 228. Ricoh announced plans to ship the MP5125A-DP internal drive. These companies did not issue price and shipping information.

On the media side, Verbatim said it has developed the DataLifePlus line of 4.7GB DVD+R discs that are certified for 2.4x recording speed.
